About the TOWER PAINTINGS, 2007
These thirty-four spare abstract paintings, based on the structure of isolated observation towers, are inspired by paintings my reclusive father made in the Sixties. The small size (18" x 24") and pictorial language reference abstract easel paintings from the postwar era. Unlike me, my father worked fairly quickly and didn't agonize over specific colors or shapes. Yet his paintings – all easel-sized canvasboards - have a prepossessing brushwork and simple charm.
